Aging Challenges: Decluttering/Downsizing (Location: Davis Library, Lower Level)

Positive aging brings many challenges. The day will come when our house or apartment becomes too much to manage with way too much stuff. Our children, other relatives, or friends refuse our “generous”offers of china, decorative objects, and other household items. Yet, we have so many memories associated with things we own… And then even if we wanted to dispose of things, how do we get rid of them anyway?  It can be overwhelming.

Debbie Sokobin of Next Chapter Concierge experienced the problem first-hand when she helped her parents downsize. She had worked for 17 years for the Jewish Community Center in senior adult programming and then ran a similar program for a few years for the Jewish Council for the Aging. Her work has included running a day care for seniors with dementia as well as dealing with other senior issues, such as decluttering. In 2021, she used her personal as well as work experience to start her own business, Next Chapter Concierge, which focuses on helping clients deal with the physical and emotional aspects of decluttering and downsizing. She will help us turn challenges into positive energy to address decluttering issues.
