Dim Sum, the Chinese term used to describe small dishes served during brunch or event gatherings, can be ordered at various Chinese restaurants in the area. But now we have the chance to see how two dessert dim sum dishes are made so we can add them to our own repertoire of home-made dishes.
Helen Lew, a North Bethesda Village neighbor, often serves her steamed egg sponge cake and rice flour (bai tang gao) sponge cake for celebrations with the many groups/classes in which she participates or leads.
Given the need for kitchen appliances and counter space, Helen will lead us in a home environment so we can see up close each step she follows in making her cake specialties, both of which will be steamed on top of the stove. And all participants will get to sample the completed cakes, while one or two participants may have the chance to lend a hand in the process as well.
If you have always marveled at the variety of Chinese cooking and wondered if there was any way you could replicate any of it well, this is an opportunity you will not want to miss.
Given space limitations, the session is limited to 11 NBV participants. A $5 fee will be charged to help NBV continue to provide interesting cooking and crafts activities in the future. To register, go to: https://bit.ly/3Y4db7W
NOTE: Directions to the Levenson house will be provided upon registration and again 7 days before event date by email.
