What JCA Can Do For You!
With staff from the Jewish Council for the Aging of the Greater Washington Area
The Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA) provides programs geared to helping seniors in the greater DMV navigate life’s complexities, enjoy their independence and, most of all, thrive!
This presentation summarizes how JCA’s many non-denominational programs might benefit you or someone you know. We will learn about such areas as:
Senior HelpLine – This telephone service provides resources and referrals to seniors, their caregivers, and families for housing, home care, home repair/maintenance, downsizing, shopping assistance, geriatric assessments, creation, county services and other aging-related needs.
Adult Day Programs – the Gorlitz Kensington Clubs in-person and virtual social day programs provide socialization and stimulation for seniors with early-stage dementia as well as education and support for the care giver.
Transportation – several programs exist to help seniors get to shopping, doctor appointments, etc., through Connect-A-Ride, Village Rides, etc.
Intergenerational Programs – seniors interact with children and adolescents in school visits, student tutoring, and Foster Grandparent program.
Senior Employment – virtual expos connect employers with job-seekers; other programs provide job search skills training and, for income-eligible residents, with employment and on-the-job training.
State Health Insurance Assistance Program – free and unbiased Medicare counseling and education are provided to County Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers.
