“Marty Supreme”
AMC Westfield Montgomery Mall
7101 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda 20817
“Marty Supreme” follows ambitious 1950s shoe salesman Mary Mauser (played by Timothee Chalamet) as he hustles his way to becoming a world table tennis champion. In the process, he navigates fraught relationships, escalating debts, and dangerous schemes from New York to Tokyo.
The film embodies a chaotic quest for glory inspired by real-life player Marty Reisman, who was a legendary and charismatic American table tennis champion, entertainer, hustler, and author. He was famous for his incredible skill and flamboyant style, winning 22 major table tennis titles from 1946 to 2002, including two US Opens and the 1949 British Open.
Marty was a master of the traditional “hardbat” style, a beloved New York character, and a proponent of the sport’s gritty, underground culture, which he detailed in his memoir, “The Money Player.”
Attendees are invited to meet up 15 minutes ahead of the screening and gather in the lobby after the show to discuss your impressions.
