The Book Circle will focus on learning about Ukrainian culture by reading English translation of short stories and novels written by Ukrainian authors. All books will be available at no cost for members who want to download and/or read them online. The May meeting discussed the short story, "The New Pantyhose" by Evgenia Kononenko (free ebook on Internet at Archive.org). Examples of other novels for reading and discussion in future meetings are, along with free-access locations): "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian," a novel by Marina Lewycka (free ebook at BooksVooks.com); “Dancing in Odessa,” a collection of poems by Ilya Kaminsky (free ebook at BooksVooks.com); “Tiger Trappers,” a novel by Ivan Bahrianyi (free ebook at Internet Archive at Archive.org). Participants may continue with the Ukrainian Book Circle and/or initiate an offshoot group to explore other types of literature or nonfiction. The intent of the reading circle is to link like-minded readers with good books and good discussion. RSVP: park21217@aol.com.
