Renwick’s Gallery State Fair Exhibit Tour
Step into the Renwick Gallery’s “State Fair” exhibit showcasing the American craft, color, and creativity that has contributed to the great American tradition of annual state fairs.
A Renwick docent will lead us to highlights of the exhibit, which features more than 240 artworks that date from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.
Each gallery in this exhibit considers personal stories of craft found in different areas of the fairgrounds: from the art exhibits and heritage villages to the parades, dairy barns, and rodeos. Ribbon-winning artworks and engaging craft demonstrations illuminate the lives of the artist - - their families, memories, honors, and struggles - - and provide a perspective on the social power of fairgrounds across the country as well as dispelling stereotypes about rural communities.
After the tour, NBV participants are invited to walk across the street for an ad hoc lunch at the Immigrant Food restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the Renwick.
Those taking Metro to the tour should get out at the Farragut North station via the K Street exit and walk south just over 2 blocks to the Renwick Gallery (on the left just before the blocked off section of Pennsylvania Avenue leading to the White House).
