Want to spice up your greeting cards this coming holiday season? Try iris folding techniques to turn sheets of paper into eye-catching designs that are colorful yet relatively easy to master.
After a little practice with a standard pattern, crafters may be able to design their own patterns and/or embellish their cards with additional flourishes to create one-of-a-kind looks.
The class will start with a presentation on the concepts and techniques to be used: desirable paper stocks, Iris-Folding technique, pattern usage, and design finalization. The main presentation will be interspersed with short exercises to work on the topics just covered, e.g., choosing paper stock, positioning of patterns/colors, and cutting and folding paper (iris folding) within a basic pattern.
Student crafters will have about 1 1/2 hours to complete a finished greeting card on their own. Those finishing earlier can attempt a second card using the same pattern or a design of their own.
Students should bring their own scissors and rulers to the session. All other required material will be provided in class, including origami-quality paper stock (patterns and solids), blank greeting cards with pre-cut windows for the initial basic pattern, and glue.
Caroline Levenson, NBV event coordination, will lead the class, which will be held at the Davis Library in the lower level meeting room. A registration fee of $10 (to cover course costs) will be charged per registered individual.
