Dec 2019 Update

North Bethesda Village is a volunteer group based in the 20852 zip code.  Our Village plans to foster connections within our community and create a network of neighbors, especially those age 50 and over, by offering volunteer support services and by coming together to enjoy group activities and events.

The initial steps in forming North Bethesda Village are being undertaken by a small group of community members. A Planning Group is providing overall direction for the Village. The Planning Group is supported by four Workgroups:

● Operations

● Communications

● Social

● Services

The Operations Workgroup is exploring an affiliation with RAVE, the Rockville Area Village Exchange. RAVE is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that supports the establishment of volunteer village networks to enrich the lives of residents in Rockville and elsewhere in Montgomery County.

The Communications Workgroup is developing a communications strategy, including a website, a database of people interested in the village, and communications tools to keep the community informed about the village’s activities.

The Social Workgroup has offered several programs and has established a partnership with Davis Library to co-sponsor educational and social activities for adults and seniors in the surrounding community. A workshop in October on “Graying in Place” included three speakers and was very well-attended.

In November, North Bethesda Village and Davis Library launched a monthly Scrabble Hour. The Scrabble Hour takes place at Davis Library on the third Tuesday of the month 2:00-3:00 p.m.  [For more Information, contact Davis Library at 240-777-0922.]

The Services Workgroup has been distributing and tabulating results of a community survey to gather information to help guide the development of services and supports that North Bethesda Village will offer.

North Bethesda Village continues to benefit from guidance from Pazit Aviv, Montgomery County’s Village Coordinator.
